I used to love back to school shopping when I was a child. The thrill of a new pencil case, pens and a new schoolbag. I’d even love the feeling of my crisp new school uniform. What can I say? I was a real geek! These days back to school shopping is a very different experience for me as now I get to watch my children get excited about the newness a new school year brings.
My youngest starts full-time school this September and she is filled with nothing but excitement at the prospect of new friendships. I’m also very aware that this heralds a new era for me too as I prepare to make friends with a whole new set of school-mums. School gate fashion is a pretty relaxed affair at our school. Although we’re not exactly the Louboutin heels and Armani suit brigade, I’ve never seen anybody turn up in pyjamas and tracksuits, either.
You can lose yourself style-wise when you become a mother as you’re constantly putting others’ needs ahead of your own. When it’s your responsibility to get others washed, dressed, fed and out the door by a certain time it’s easy to pay less and less attention to your own wardrobe.
I try to keep my day to day mum uniform simple. I wear things that I can throw on and put together easily, but to avoid the boredom I also like to inject a little bit of colour into my wardrobe too. A brightly coloured pair of shoes, handbag, or scarf can switch up an outfit from drab to fab.
Here are a few colour combinations that have been catching my eye recently:
Red and Blue
What do you think? Have I inspired your back to school wardrobe?
