Blog Hop = One blogger, 4 Questions, Pass it on…
Mother’s guilt is a funny thing. They never tell you about it in pregnancy magazines and my midwife certainly never mentioned it. However, unlike breastfeeding or potty training, you never grow out of it and it sneaks upon you when you least expect it.
A couple weeks ago I was asked to take part in a blog hop by the lovely Lisa from Mathilde heart Manech. I was thrilled to be asked as I’ve never taken part in anything like this before and I was just putting the finishing touches to my post when the mother’s guilt kicked in. To cut a long story short, it’s summer holidays, so the kids are around. All. The. Time. I sent them upstairs to play quietly whilst, ‘Mummy got things done’. The next thing I knew, my youngest child had managed to knock out the two front teeth of my eldest child. An emergency appointment to the dentist later and all is well. Needless to say my priorities shifted somewhat this week so this post is later than planned.
Why do I write?
My reasons for writing have changed since I started this blog. At first it was a sideline to get people interested in my Etsy shop where I sold vintage and handmade accessories, but over the course of time the Etsy shop went and the blog stayed. Now I write for several reasons. Since my early teens I was into vintage fashion and crafting out of necessity. If my parents couldn’t afford it, I made it. As I got older I found that I could afford more things, but by then it turned into a hobby for me so I carried on thrifting and creating. I write to remember. I want to be able to look back when im old and see what I achieved when I was younger. Another reason for writing is to have a creative outlet. Having a place where I can talk about food and vintage fashion has kept me (and my husband) sane and I wish I had discovered it sooner.
What am I working on?
As my reasons for blogging have changed, so has my attitude to my blog. I’ve started taking it more seriously and as part of that I attended Blognix back in June (I wrote about it here). Since then there has been a definite post-Blognix shift in the quality of my work. I’ve also been getting to grips with my new camera and I’ve been working on developing my own photographic style.
How does it differ from others of it’s genre?
I was stumped on this one. As a lifestyle blogger I’m pretty sure I’m not reinventing the wheel. The only thing that differentiates my blog from others is, well, me, I suppose. I’m a jeans loving tomboy who loves tea dresses. I love crafting, but I also like to keep things simple. I love vintage but I don’t wear it everyday. I don’t drink tea, but I have enough teacups to hydrate about 60 people (no kidding). I am a 30 something woman of colour with a husband and 2 children. I’m not claiming to be unique, but a vast range of things interest me and I write about them all.
How does my writing process work?
With most posts I will start with the photos and then I will work the narrative around the pictures. I would love to tell you that I have a beautiful little corner where I create edenfound, but I don’t. I have my laptop and I will literally blog anywhere around the house. In fact the only room I’ve not blogged in is the bathroom! I prefer to write in absolute quiet, so I tend to write either in the evenings or when my youngest child is at pre-school. It’s now the school holidays, so it’s more difficult to find pockets of calm to write in, so I sneak off to another room when I can and leave the children to it….. Oh look, we’ve come full circle. See what I did there?
Time to nominate 2 other bloggers to take the Blog Hop baton and there’s a definite Yorkshire theme to it. First up is Anna from Angel in the North. I’ve been following her blog for a while now (she wrote a great piece a couple years ago on being an ‘older blogger’).
Next up is my very good friend Lucy over at Handmade with Love. A singing teacher and seamstress, she only started blogging this year and she’s just finding her feet in the blogging world. She came with me to Blognix and she too left feeling really inspired. A blog redesign is on the cards for later this year too, so watch this space…
Till next time
