I’ve been wanting to rock the tartan trend for a while now, but every skirt I’ve found has been a little, well….short. I’m 5ft 9in, 35 years old and live in Yorkshire. Not a good combination for exposing too much leg I’m afraid. However, I spotted this gem in my local charity shop at the weekend for a mere £3.
I would usually steer clear of shortening a skirt with pleats, but the horizontal stripes provided me with guidelines of where I could cut. Here’s how I shortened the skirt:
- Using a skirt I already own as a guide, I marked with chalk how short I wanted the skirt to be.
- After I cut the skirt I ironed the pleats out, using a teatowel to protect the garment,
- I folded the new hem line and ironed it into place.
- I sewed the hem.
- Lastly, I ironed the pleats back in.
An easy job, that I managed to complete in one evening in front of the telly and here’s the finished result:
Much better than the original, don’t you think? I think I’m going to get lots of wear out of this.
Bye for now
