I thought I’d let you know the reason for my absence in recent weeks. Last year we bought the house that we had been renting for two years and it was a great feeling to be back on the housing ladder again. Although the existing decor when we moved in was pleasant, it wasn’t exactly to our taste, so last month we bit the bullet and decided to give it an update. Here are a few pics of how it used to look:
(Note the dark green curtains, beige walls and old rug).
We took our time in deciding what to do. I had a Pinterest board full of ideas. At first I leaned towards a period style, but as our house was built in the 1970s, we decided to go with a more modern style, in keeping with the age of the house. Also, although we had a budget to decorate, we did not have a spare few thousand pounds to replace our two sofas which were still in great condition, so any colour scheme had to incorporate them too.
The living room is the most used room in any house, so a degree of upheaval was inevitable, especially with 2 small children. As you can see from the ‘during’ photos, the house was not a pretty sight for a while.
But eventually, things started to shape up.
And the thought of having a carpet and a coffee table for the first time in 10 YEARS kept me going.
And I got my coffee table!
As you can see, it’s still not finished. Door handles are still missing, there are pictures still to go up and there is woodwork yet to be painted. But for now, I will run my feet along the carpet, stroke my coffee table and console myself with what we have achieved so far.
Are any of you contemplating DIY projects? Or any of you in the middle of one and struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel? Keep going it’ll be worth it in the end.
