Welcome to this new feature on my blog. If your Monday mornings have you facing a frustrating commute or a stressed out school-run, then these posts are for you. I mean, who doesn’t need a little bit of crazy to brighten up their day?
Let’s kick this off with a lil’ touch of nostalgia.
Broom cupboards and a Gopher called Gordon – yeah man, they were the days. I loved this cartoon so much, I actually wanted to be Cheetara. I may have even run around the playground like a loony pretending to be her… Sad, but true….ok, that’s enough sharing for now. Time for the next one…
So, back in 1980s Britain there weren’t many black people on TV. Black icons consisted of Daley Thompson, Floella Benjamin, Tessa Sanderson and the Cosbys. But to me the ultimate role model was Diana the Acrobat in Dungeons and Dragons. Oh man, she had it all, not only did she have a staff, but she had a great outfit too (Great in the eyes of a child, you understand. Don’t worry, I won’t be planning any outfit posts wearing a furry two-piece). Most of all I loved her hair. In a world pre weave-on extensions, I stood in awe at her flowing locks.
Ok, one more
Did you remember the words? Oh, just me then. Awkward.
Anyway, I hope you like my little foray in the world of 80s nostalgia. If you’re a similar age to me it may have brought back some warm memories and if you were born in the 90s and 00s, well, now you know what your parents were watching. Ps, it hasn’t escaped my attention either that two of my early role models wore swimwear year-round and dabbled in a bit of pole vault. HOW am I not an athlete….?
Thunder, thunder, thunder, hoooo!
